The global economic crisis has triggered a hunger spike to the poorest people in developing countires, according to a research conducted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP 2009). According to estimates from the FAO, more than 1 billion peple have gone hungry (FAO, 2009). Out of these 1 billion people, 642 million people are suffering in Asia and the Pacific; 265 milllion in Sub-Sharan Africa; 53 million in Latin America and the Caribbean; 42 million in Near East and North East and North Afrcia and a total of 15 million people in developed countries, accroding to the annual hunger report from the FAO (FAO-"The State of Food Insecurity", 2009).
